Music Mondays #10

Posted on 20:38 by Unknown
zzz-musicmondays

Welcome to the next edition of Music Mondays.  It’s pretty basic, I take a playlist and put it on random, and post what comes up.

  • Playlist – “Anything & Everything”
  • Description – Anything from Christian to Rock, Rap to Country, Classical to 80’s.  It goes from the 1960’s to current.  Pretty much anything and everything that I like.
  • Number of songs on the playlist – 1,544 songs (up 0 songs from last post)
  1. Born on the Bayou (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
  2. Faith (George Michael)
  3. Spinnin’ Round (DC Talk)
  4. Count On Me (Jefferson Starship)
  5. Ho Hey (the Lumineers)
  6. Closing Time (Semisonic)
  7. Said I Loved You…But I Lied (Michael Bolton)
  8. We Didn’t Start the Fire (Billy Joel)
  9. I Can Love You Like That (John Michael Montgomery)
  10. Savin’ Me (Nickelback)
  11. the Power of Love (Huey Lewis & the News)
  12. A Change Would Do You Good (Sheryl Crow)
  13. Rodeo (Garth Brooks)
  14. From This Moment (Shania Twain)
  15. Liberate (Disturbed)
  16. VooDoo (Godsmack)
  17. Affair of the Heart (Rick Springfield)
  18. Girl Can’t Help It (Journey)
  19. Epiphany (Staind)
  20. If God Is For US (Who Can Be Against Us) (DeGarmo & Key)

Wow!  I made it 20 songs without a repeat artist.  Lots of 80’s and modern rock, and not much Christian.  My wife would be happy with that, she doesn’t like it when the Christian songs pop up in the car.  I actually made another playlist without the Christian songs (and minus a few others) that I play when she’s in the car now.

This is also the first time that in 10 posts that I hadn’t added any songs since the previous post.  Maybe I’m finally running out of songs, although I doubt it.

I’ve decided to randomly choose an artist from above and show all the songs I have on my playlist.  I used Random.org, put the numbers 1-20 and click random 3 times, the number 10 came up at the top which would be Nickelback in accordance to the list above.

Random Thoughts From A Random Guy

I’ll probably lose followers for admitting that I listen to Nickelback.  To be honest, I’m not sure why everybody hates them.  I don’t not listen to someone because everybody else doesn’t like them.  If I like their music, I like their music.  As you can see above, I enjoy at least 7 of their songs.  My kids love Rockstar, I think my favorite is probably Photograph.

zzz-trackoftheday

Track – Piano Man

Artist – Billy Joel

totd-screencap18

Billy Joel has a crap load of songs that I like and that could be considered Greatest Hits of the decade.  My personal favorite song of his is Piano Man.  I don’t really have a reason for it, but I love it.  Lots of different stories all in one song, but what I really like is the chorus

Sing us a song you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feeling alright

I’ve always liked piano music too, maybe that has something to do with it as well.

Podcasts and a proud parent

Posted on 21:56 by Unknown

A friend of mine started a podcast (TwoBoredVets.com) that I’ve been listening to and have enjoyed it, so I’ve been searching for others.  I went through SoundCloud and looked through there.  I found a couple but not a lot.  Part of the problem I have is I don’t have the time to listen to a bunch of podcast that are over an hour long.  So ideally, I would like to find a fairly short one, even if it posted daily.  If it’s something I really want to listen to then the length doesn’t matter but I haven’t really found anything that will peak my interest for that long.  Two Bored Vets I make an exception for because one of them is a friend, they usually run just under an hour.

So, like I said, I’m having trouble finding some good ones so I’m looking for some suggestions.  My wife probably won’t appreciate this because I sit on the couch and put my headphones on.  I tell her its not loud enough that I can’t hear her talk, but she probably feels like I ignore her.  She should enjoy it because while I’m listening, she can watch her stuff on the DVR that I don’t watch.

Speaking of podcasts, today I was listening to Mayor Gia’s podcast with her boyfriend and I thought, I could do this.  Really, I could.  I’m actually a pretty funny guy.  The problem is what makes me funny is my quick wit and my lack of filter.  That kind of humor just doesn’t come out on a blog so you’re probably all going, that dude ain’t funny at all.  I kind of randomly threw it out to my wife about doing one, kind of gauging if she would be interested.  I’m pretty sure that was a no, there wasn’t much interest at all, even with me doing one.  I had been thinking about doing short vlogs (video logs) for about a month or so and now I’m thinking about podcasts.  I really need to get some more friends (in general) that have my internet interest.

2013-09-26 16.58.04

I wanted to say how proud I am of my kids.  Samantha finished cross country and while she has found out that she is not a runner, I found out that she is not a quitter.  She struggled and there was only one person on the team that she could beat (that was her best friend on the team) but she kept running.  She never skipped practice and she ran all the meets.  She never even asked to stay home and not go.  I asked her after a meet if I would let her quit (she knows I won’t let her) if she would?  She said no, because it would disappoint my team mates (that’s what I always told her).  I went to all her local meets even though for the most part I watch her start, wait, then watch her finish.  I must admit that I loved seeing her in the sweat suit with the school logo and her number on it.

Basketball is up next for her.  All the school has is an intermural league and she is doing that plus I signed her up for Upwards which is through the local churches and she’ll play there at the beginning of the year.  Definitely looking forward to watching her play the sport that I loved growing up.

As far as being proud of Trevor, we got an e-mail from his teacher that said he was getting an award for making the Principals High Honor Roll and told us when the awards program was.  I took off work and Cheri, my mom and I went.  First he got his high honor roll (all A’s) certificate.  Then he got called up for the school pride (exceptional behavior and academics) certificate which they only picked one kid per class, then he got called up for his perfect attendance award.  So he ended up taking home a certificate for all 3 of the awards they gave out.  It was awesome, I was very proud.

So it looks like I have a brain and an athlete (Breakfast Club reference).  I’m proud of both of them and they are both growing up to be really good kids.

2013-10-17 09.44.54

I took time to update my Tumblr pages for the next few days.  I hadn’t posted anything over there in probably around a week.  See, I slack on all my blogs, not just this one.  I also have been scanning and doing other things for my sports card blog instead of just random posts that I’ve been doing.  Tomorrow, my mom is taking the kids to get their pumpkins and then we will sit down and carve them.  It’s one of our many holiday traditions.

Since I’ve been combining my WWW Wednesdays and Stacking the Shelves into one post, I’ve decided to rename the posts.

WWW Wednesdays #28

To play along, I’m supposed to answer 3 easy questions.

What are you currently reading?

Tankbread

Tankbread by Paul Mannering

Tankbread refers to humans that we clone to feed the zombies in order to keep our peace treaty.  Yeah, already different than your typical zombie books.

What did you recently finish reading?

Atrum Terra: Dark Lands

Atrum Terra:  Dark Lands by Brenton J. Cox

I liked this book.  It wasn’t your typical zombie apocalypse book.  It actually started before it happened and explained how it did.  It also had another aspect as in while we are fighting zombies, we are fighting the countries that did this to us as they are trying to attack our borders.  It was a good read.

Keys to the Coven: Demonic Intervention Series

Keys to the Coven by Vicky Loebel

This was a good book but it got confusing.  Between all the characters introduced and all the different types of magic.  I followed it ok and the more I read the better I followed it but it was difficult at first.  But all in all, I did enjoy the book.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Children of the Fog

Children of the Fog by Cheryl Kate Tardif

A non supernatural book.  A mother’s son is kidnapped and she has to keep quiet otherwise get her son back in pieces.  But what happens when the husband starts getting mixed up in it as well.  This book sounds like a thriller.  I’m looking forward to it.

It sounds good, I’m just hoping it doesn’t become more of a romance novel.

MGoAuctions

Posted on 18:36 by Unknown

I was asked to plug an auction site and after checking it out, It’s definitely something I would like to help out.  After checking out mgoauction.com and reading what the funds were going for, I was all in.

Mgoauction raises money for 3 scholarships for the University of Michigan.  The Bernard “Pat” Maloy Cancer Scholarship, the Shelly Kovacs Scholarship and the KAS Governor’s Scholarships.  While I’m all for raising money for all 3 scholarships, the first one hits home with me.  I lost my father to cancer in 1981 which I’ve spoken about here.  But my sister-in-law battled breast cancer and while she beat it, she has some lasting effects from the chemo and radiation.  My grandfather has also battled cancer a few times and it has taken a toll on his as well.  There is also a classmate of mine and a friend from work all battling it as well.

Not to mention I’m always up for helping out some kids go to a better school, and what better school is there than the University of Michigan?  But the nice thing about this donation, you get something in return.  Check out the banner below to see just a small portion of items on the site.

Pat Maloy Flyer.7.24

That’s right, you can go and purchase autographed memorabilia or photos and help the kids out.  Get autographs from NFL players such as Ben Roethlisberger, Clay Matthews, Calvin Johnson, Mike Ditka, or Steven Jackson.  MLB players such as Matt Sherzer, Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera and Torii Hunter.  Or NBA players such as Bob Lanier, Chris Mullin and Dwight Howard.  All those professional players have autographed memorabilia listed and that doesn’t include all the Michigan alumni who have autographs listed.  Such as Michael Phelps, Barry Larkin, Chris Getz, Jim Abbott, Rich Hill, Zach Novak, Gary Grant, Jalen Rose, Juwon Howard, Will Campbell, Anthony Thomas, Anthony Carter, Brandon Graham, Braylon Edwards, Chad Henne, Brian Griese, Jake Long, Charles Woodson, Chris Perry, Dan Dierdorf, David Molk, David Terrell, Denard Robinson, Desmond Howard, Elvis Grbak, Jeff Backus, Jason Avant, Jim Harbaugh, John Navarre, LaMarr Woodley, Les Miles, Lloyd Carr, Mario Manningham, Marlin Jackson, Mike Hart, Mike Martin, Roy Roundtree, Steve Breaston, Tai Streets, Tshimanga Baikabutuka and Tyrone Wheatley.

Even if you don’t have a lot of money to spend, they have a $10 M bin, a $5 M bin and even a $1 M bin.  So please go and purchase something to help with scholarships to the University of Michigan

Even if your not a Michigan fan, I am, so feel free to buy me anything on the site and I’ll send you my address.

Click on the banner in the middle of this post, or go to mgoauction.com and check out the merchandise.  I will also leave a banner over to the right up so if you forget where to go, come here and I’ll lead the way.  But hurry, because some of the auctions are ending soon.

Music Mondays #9

Posted on 19:14 by Unknown
zzz-musicmondays

Welcome to the next edition of Music Mondays.  It’s pretty basic, I take a playlist and put it on random, and post what comes up.

  • Playlist – “Anything & Everything”
  • Description – Anything from Christian to Rock, Rap to Country, Classical to 80’s.  It goes from the 1960’s to current.  Pretty much anything and everything that I like.
  • Number of songs on the playlist – 1,544 songs (up 10 songs from last post)
  1. I am a Man of Constant Sorrow (the Soggy Bottom Boys)
  2. Purple Rain (Prince & the Revolution)
  3. Open Book (Petra)
  4. Bitch Came Back (Theory of a Deadman)
  5. Circle Slide (the Choir)
  6. Conga (Gloria Estefan, Miami Sound Machine)
  7. There’ll be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry) (Billy Ocean)
  8. California Love (2Pac)
  9. Open Arms (Journey)
  10. Making Love Out of Nothing at All (Air Supply)
  11. Second Chance (Shinedown)
  12. Last Chance Café (Allies)
  13. Rollin’ (Limp Bizkit)
  14. the Diary of Jane (Breaking Benjamin)
  15. If You’re Gone (Matchbox Twenty)
  16. Weathered (Creed)
  17. When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going (Billy Ocean)
  18. Everybody (Ingrid Michaelson)
  19. How Deep is Your Love (Bee Gees)
  20. Prayer (Disturbed)

Definitely a good mix in here.  I like the song Bitch Came Back sandwiched between 2 christian songs.  Over 1500 songs and I end up with 2 Billy Ocean songs too  Told you the random sucked.

I’ve decided to randomly choose an artist from above and show all the songs I have on my playlist.  I used Random.org, put the numbers 1-20 and click random 3 times, the number 15 came up at the top which would be Matchbox 20 in accordance to the list above.  This might take a few screen caps.

matchbox twenty - Google Search

I have 6 songs from Matchbox Twenty.  I used to have the CD Yourself or Someone Like You and really liked the whole CD but I only took the 4 from above.  I’d probably have more of their songs if I took the time to listen to them all.  I don’t ever listen to CD’s anymore, usually I’ll hear the song somewhere and like it and add it.  Don’t tell my wife that I only have 6, she loves Matchbox Twenty, luckily she probably quit reading my blog or at least these posts because she doesn’t like half my music.

zzz-trackoftheday

Track – Dreaming of You

Artist – Selena

totd-screencap17

I had never heard of Selena until I saw the movie about her career.  I’m not even sure where I saw it, someone else must have thrown it in somewhere.  But there was a song or two that I liked, this being on of them.  A tragic story, she gets killed right before she hits it big in the states.  I want to say it was the president of her fan club (an employee of hers) that did it after she was fired.  Something like that, it’s been awhile.

Some lyrics.

Late at night when all the world is sleeping
I stay up and think of you
And I wish on a star that somewhere you are
Thinking of me too

Cause I'm dreaming of you tonight
Till tomorrow I'll be holding you tight
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room dreaming about you and me

Social Media Sunday

Posted on 20:49 by Unknown

For awhile now, I’ve been taking some time on Sundays (usually, sometimes Monday) and tracking my social media accounts.  I don’t know why, I just do.  I don’t really do anything to go out of my way to gather more followers.  For a month, I did the A to Z Challenge on this blog and that was to gather some followers.  I also went through a time where I made an effort to get more Twitter followers for (@jccsst1022) and (@sportobsession6) but I don’t anymore.  I don’t even post much to my Vine or YouTube accounts, but I added them to the list anyways.  Let’s take a look at the graph.

A Day in the Life of...(1)

The left side of the red line is followers, the right side are content posted.  I didn’t post up to my usual standard this week.  I really haven’t been online as much as I usually am.  That is sometimes typical on the weeks I am scheduled for 5 12 hour days.  The chart shows my online presence at 2410 followers, technically up 5 followers but I lost 3 on my SportObsession6 Twitter account.  That’s a regularity on the 2 Twitter accounts with a bunch of followers.  I follow anyone who follows me so people will follow me just to get a follower and then unfollow me.  But I use a service that tells me who unfollows me and they will get unfollowed as well.

I realize none of you really care about any of this, but I’ve been struggling for content and like I said above, I’ve been doing this for awhile so why not blog about it.  We’ll see if I continue this every week.  I should have time for a Music Mondays post tomorrow.

Flashback Friday - 10/10/1999

Posted on 20:39 by Unknown

zzz-flashbackfridays

10/10/1999.

No, I'm not confused on what year it is. That is the date that I started working at my current place of employment. Before I started there, the longest I had held a job was 3 years and I had done that twice. I was 26 years old and married but had no kids yet. Lets go back to 1999 and see what has changed.

I was working at a steel construction place, where we built steel warehouse type of buildings. Yes, I used to walk steel, on beams that weren't even as wide as my foot, up to 50 feet in the air. It paid pretty well but the hours sucked. We had to be on the job site at dawn. The problem with that was sometimes the site was a couple of hours away. So that means getting up as early as 3 am on some jobs. We would usually be out at the site till around 5 pm so sometimes I wasn't getting home until after 7 pm. I was playing on a couple of softball teams and a bowling league at this time so I usually had to beg my foreman to leave early. Plus, look at the date, October, it was starting to get cold. So I was casually looking for another job. My coach on one of my softball teams told me they were hiring. The pay wasn't as good hourly, but between overtime and bonuses, I could make close to what I did in construction so I took it.  I started off where I work on 3rd shift (11pm to 7am). I had never worked a 3rd shift but it's what I had to take to get my foot in the door.

My first night, I sat and racked small parts all night and morning. I was struggling to stay awake. My 2nd night was a little better because I racked big parts. I was standing and moving a lot more so staying awake was easier. My 3rd night, the buddy that got me the job got me moved over to run the overhead crane. I ended up doing that for a year waiting on an opening on the anodizing line and got over to where I work now. Base pay wise, it's the highest paid production job in the plant so within a year, I was making pretty good money. Plus we were working every other weekend mandatory and our monthly bonus checks were $300 to $400 take home. But I was young and stupid, I skipped work all the time and my wife (theEx) never would keep a job so we spent it.

Now, hear I am, 14 years later, doing the same job. Only now I never miss (that changed when I had kids) and I'm making less money. Last year was the first time I had ever made less money than the previous year. We got switched over to 12 hour shifts so the company didn't have to pay as much overtime (Sundays is straight time with the new hours).

Our bonus checks now are about $50, quarterly (every 3 months). I still like my job as in what I do but I no longer like where I work. It used to be a place where you could joke around and have a little fun, it no longer is. It used to be a place where you felt like the company cared about you, it no longer is. It no longer is a lot of things it used to be.

Well that post took a turn to the depressing so lets liven it up a bit by naming some stuff that has changed since 1999.

1999-2013

Ok.  Some of that is depressing as well but I am much happier in 2013 than I was in 1999.  I’m with someone who loves me and I wouldn’t give my kids up for the world.  I’m this close to buying my first home.  While I do hate where I work, I am grateful to have job security or at least as long as I can keep my mouth shut.  I don’t know where I’ll be in another 14 years but I know every year gets a little better so I’m looking forward to 2027.

To play along, I’m supposed to answer 3 easy questions.

What are you currently reading?

Atrum Terra: Dark Lands

Atrum Terra:  Dark Lands by Brenton J. Cox

I’m a little over half way through, I like the storyline of it.  A very plausible explanation on how the zombie apocalypse starts.  A developed virus as a weapon, definitely plausible.

What did you recently finish reading?

Touched (The Marnie Baranuik Files #1)

Touched (The Marnie Baranuik Files #1) by AJ Aalto

I really liked this book, it reminded me of the Hallows series by Kim Harrison which is one of my all-time favorite series.  The main character is trying to find her way with her powers and makes mistakes along the way but she’s always trying to do what’s right.

Six days with the Dead

Six Days with the Dead by Stephen Charlick

This was pretty good as well.  I gave it 4 stars.  As it always happens to be,  You end up more afraid of the other human survivors then you do the zombies.  Instead of just crazy survivors, you get religious nuts killing in the name of the lord.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Keys to the Coven: Demonic Intervention Series

Keys to the Coven by Vicky Loebel

Supernatural instead of Zombie?  It’s probably time, I’ve had a run of zombie books lately.

Music Mondays #8

zzz-musicmondays

Welcome to the next edition of Music Mondays.  It’s pretty basic, I take a playlist and put it on random, and post what comes up.

  • Playlist – “Anything & Everything”
  • Description – Anything from Christian to Rock, Rap to Country, Classical to 80’s.  It goes from the 1960’s to current.  Pretty much anything and everything that I like.
  • Number of songs on the playlist – 1,534 songs (up 104 songs from last post)

  1. Singing in my Sleep (Semisonic)
  2. 1, 2, 3, 4 (Plain White T’s)
  3. How You Remind Me (Nickelback)
  4. Locked Out of Heaven (Bruno Mars)
  5. Bad Religion (Godsmack)
  6. I Found Love (Geoff Moore & the Foundations)
  7. Know Your Enemy (Green Day)
  8. Take it to the Limit (Eagles)
  9. Fly Like an Eagle (Steve Miller Band)
  10. I’ll be There For You (Bon Jovi)
  11. Hero/Heroine (Boys Likes Girls)
  12. This Means War! (Petra)
  13. Piano Man (Billy Joel)
  14. Ice Cream Man (Van Halen)
  15. Always (Saliva)
  16. Speechless (Crumbacher)
  17. the Beautiful People (Marilyn Manson)
  18. Movin’ Out (Billy Joel)
  19. Trains up in the Sky (Mylon LeFevre & the Broken Heart)
  20. 21 Guns (Green Day)

In case, you didn’t notice up above, I added 104 songs to the playlist.  Usually when I add songs, I get an artist or song in my head (usually hear it somewhere) and then go to their page and get the songs they sing that I know.  After I do that, there is a page on each artists page that has related artists.  If I recognize one of those, I do it all over again.  Sometimes I’ll get a couple more songs, sometimes I’ll get 50 more.  I know I added 16 songs from a new genre, it didn’t get represented in the 20 above, but I’m sure at one point it will.

I’ve decided to randomly choose an artist from above and show all the songs I have on my playlist.  I used Random.org, put the numbers 1-20 and click random 3 times, the number 12 came up at the top which would be Petra in accordance to the list above.  This might take a few screen caps.

petra christian band - Google Search

petra christian band - Google Search(1)

Told you it would take a couple of screen shots.  I count 46 tracks above, but I also noticed I had a same song listed twice (oops).  As you can tell by the amount of different albums, they’ve been around awhile.  As a matter of fact, the title of their latest tour is the 40th anniversary tour.  So there you go.  According to Wikipedia, they released 20 studio albums and I know they released all kinds of greatest hits albums.  The last album I purchased was the last one listed above, Wake-Up Call.  They actually released 5 or 6 more after that, so good thing I stopped listening to christian music then otherwise I’d probably have 60 or 70 of their songs listed.  I had every studio album on cassette (ask your parents young en’s) up until Wake-Up Call.

They were probably the most famous christian band in the 80’s and 90’s.  I’ve seen them in concert a bunch of times, I’d probably guess about 10-15 times.  I was wearing one of their concert t-shirts when I got interviewed on the radio in Washington DC while doing a walk to the capital building (I don’t remember what the walk was for).  They asked me what the saying on the back of my shirt meant.  After thinking a minute and trying to remember what it said, I answered.  It said “Get on your knees and fight like a man”.

WWW Wednesdays #26 & Stacking the Shelves #10

Posted on 17:50 by Unknown

WWW_Wednesdays4

To play along, I’m supposed to answer 3 easy questions.

What are you currently reading?

Touched (The Marnie Baranuik Files #1)

Touched (The Marnie Baranuik Files #1) by AJ Aalto

A book with a forensic psychic.  Two things I enjoy reading about.  I haven’t actually started reading it as I finished my last book just before I left work so I will start this one on Friday.

What did you recently finish reading?

Social Media Holocaust

Social Media Holocaust by Brian Krogstad & Damien Darby

I gave this 3 stars.  It was a little far fetched, not that I mind having to use my imagination but I had trouble seeing this happen.  Sure, I could see a few murders happen this way but not enough to cause a holocaust.

Bottle Full of Scorpions

Bottle Full of Scorpions by John Dominick

I gave this 4 stars.  It was pretty interesting reading how the main character survives these scorpion like aliens killing everyone where he lives.  He survives just fine on his own until more survivors get stuck with him.  Then it becomes survival of the fittest.  I thought it was a good read and looked forward to picking it up when I had a chance.

Fraidy Hole

Fraidy Hole (Sheriff Lester P. Morrison #1) by Warren Williams

Another book I gave 4 stars.  This one was the type of book I used to read a lot.  Nothing supernatural, just a good old fashioned crime thriller.  Sheriff Lester P. Morrison and his deputy were pretty believable characters and I enjoyed their interaction.  It was a good read and I didn’t see who did it until the end, which is what I like.

Blood Crimes: Book One

Blood Crimes (book one) by Dave Zeltserman

I have this one 4 stars as well.  It was more or less a vampire book but quite a bit different as in it is a virus and the psychopath is trying to keep the world in the dark about them so they will always have food so he controls them all, except the one that got away.  This book is about him trying to survive with this virus with the help of his significant other who isn’t effected but wants to be.

Promise (Soul Savers, #1)

Promise (Soul Keepers #1) by Kristie Cook

I gave this 4 stars even though I didn’t like the cliff hanger ending.  I don’t mind endings like that but usually in a book, you at least get to finish the main storyline with an ending to make you want to read the next book but this one didn’t seem like it finished anything and is just continuing.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Six days with the Dead

Six Days with the Dead by Stephen Charlick

the Weekend camping trip

Posted on 19:54 by Unknown

Some of my family have been doing a fall camping trip and this year, we decided to attend.  It ended up being 44 people, I guess technically all family since most were by marriage.  But my mom and stepdad, my brother and his family and my family all went.  It had been raining pretty steadily since Wednesday night but it was supposed to be done by Friday night.  Once the kids got off the bus, we headed out.  Our little caravan consisted of my stepdad’s truck pulling his camper, my sister-in-law’s suv, my brothers jeep wrangler, me driving my moms minivan and my brother’s friend.  I was following my brothers Jeep because he needed someone with decent reflexes behind him because his Jeep tends to go into what is a called, a death wobble (it’s a thing, Google it) occasionally and the only thing you can do to get it to stop is slow down.

So we are driving down the bypass, doing about 65 mph.  We are passing a semi that is moving a little slower.  My stepdad gets over in front of it, then my sister-in-law and my brother.  Finally I get behind him and before his friend can get in behind me, the death wobble occurs.  My brother slams on his brakes and pulls off the side of the road, I slam on my brakes and start to go over, then I glance in my rear-view mirror and see the semi right on my ass so I floored it.  Needless to say, my brother was playing catch up the rest of the trip.

We made it up there ok and set up camp.  Had some burgers with mac and cheese and cowboys beans for supper.  Pretty much just hung by the camp fire all evening.  It was a little chilly but considering we usually end up camping when it’s 90° so we can deal with a little chill.  Cheri and I both slept like crap, and our air mattress had a leak because we woke up on the ground.  Saturday, we took some time to go to the beach (Lake Michigan) because with the wind, we could hear the waves from our campsite and we wanted to check it out.  So everybody walked and Cheri and I drove on down to see these.

I have never seen the waves like that there.  Not that I go up every week or anything, but I have been up off of the lake quite a bit of times.  You can see a 6 second Vine video here, or at least I hope so.  My brother said his dogs were too afraid to go near the water.  As you can see in the picture, it was a pretty clear day and sure enough, look what you could see on the other side of the lake.

Yup, that would be the Chicago skyline, and pretty clear at that.  Cheri and I didn’t stick around long, it was just too cold.  When everyone got back to the campsite, we started setting up for some more Saturday activities.  What’s a Saturday without some college football?

2013-09-21 14.59.29

What?  It’s too cold for the beach and there wasn’t really anything else to do.  The intention of taking all of this equipment was to watch the Michigan/UCONN game but because it was on local ABC, the WatchESPN app blacked it out and we couldn’t watch it anyways.  Don’t even get me started with that.  They need to realize that not everyone can be home in front of their TV’s to watch the game, they need to realize that there are all kinds of devices to watch TV on and quit with the blackout restrictions.  Oops, I got started.  There’s more but I won’t get into that.  By the end of the afternoon games, we moved the table next to the fire (good thing the cousins weren’t there) because it was getting colder and we needed some warming up.

For supper, everyone brought enough chili for their family and we threw them all in a huge pot and cooked it all together.  We pretty much hung around the fire all evening before crashing on our air mattresses for the night.  My mom and step dad ran into town and got us a new one and we slept a whole lot better.

Sunday morning we packed up and left.  It was a good weekend but we are beat.  I’m looking forward to sleeping in my bed tonight.  Trevor spent a lot of time playing his video games so that wasn’t much different from staying home.  He did run around with other kids on Sunday morning so he got some play time with others.  I didn’t really see Samantha much all weekend, she hung out with her cousin and she was chasing the boys that were with the group.  The kids both said they had a good time and that’s what the trip is all about.  Got to head back to the grind tomorrow, and it’s a long week on top of that.

I hate the radio

Posted on 17:52 by Unknown

I hate the radio.

I understand why they have to have commercials and all the talking but it doesn’t make me like it any less.  It only takes me 7-10 minutes to get from home to work.  So when I get in my car, there is a distinct possibility that I will only manage to hear part of 1 song if they are on or go on a commercial break.  It’s way worse in the mornings because they run their stupid morning shows so I hear no music anyways.  It does no good to flip through the channels because they all have morning shows.  I used to listen to the Bob & Tom show in the mornings and I loved the show.  But it was a 25-30 minute drive to work so I got into the conversation, even if I got stuck with a commercial, it wouldn’t be the whole trip.  So I’m not against morning shows in general, just when I don’t have time to really get into anything.  So I listen to my Spotify playlist.

Depending on what section I’m in at work, I may get 2 hours or so of listening to Spotify.  2 weeks of the month I get a couple hours, 2 weeks I don’t.

On the way home from work, 7-10 minutes and since I get off at the top of the hour, it’s usually commercials to start with, so I listen to Spotify.

So you can see why I pay for the Spotify premium service, I get plenty of use out of it.  You can also see why I have such a huge playlist.  It currently has 1468 songs, up 38 songs from yesterday.  As you can see I’m constantly adding to it.  Another reason I don’t like the radio is because when a new song comes out, they play it every hour.  So there is even a good chance that in that 7-10 minutes to and from work, that I will hear the same song.  What I do with my Spotify playlist (Anything & Everything) is, I create a 2nd playlist (A&E II) and organize them and start playing it from the top to the bottom until I get through it.  First, I organized them A-Z by title, then I played it on random for awhile, then I organized them Z-A.  Now I have them organized by time, longest to shortest.  I have no idea what I’ll do next, but since I have 1400+ songs, it’ll probably take me a couple of months to get through all of them so I got time.

So in the end I have to say, I love Spotify and I hate the radio.

Track – Watch the Lamb

Artist – Ray Boltz

totd-screencap16

This is one of those old christian songs from back in the day.  It’s about a father taking his kids and a lamb to be sacrificed in Jerusalem on the day that Jesus is crucified.  It talks about how the soldier made him help carry the cross and witnessing the crucifixion up close until he dies.  Here is the end of the song, that makes you tear up.

I stood for what seemed like years, I lost all sense of time,
Until I felt two tiny hands Holding tight to mine.
My children stood there weeping, And I heard the oldest say
"Father please forgive us, The lamb, Ran away.

Daddy daddy, What've we seen here, There's so much that we don't understand,"
So I took them in my arms, We turned and faced the cross.
And I said, "Dear children Watch the lamb."
